HISTORY
Alethos was founded in 2025 by Alex Garfin after years of advocacy in inter-generational communication, and one late night conversation outside the Harvard Club of New York with Nermin Ahmad in 2023.
Garfin has been working professionally in the media space since early childhood and has almost two decades of experience in front of the camera. Since 2022, Garfin has had the opportunity to speak on inter-generational communication all over the world, including COP-27 in Egypt, TEDx in Germany, The International Telecommunications Union in Switzerland, and many UN meetings in the USA.
Ahmad grew up with a Diplomat father, hearing him negotiate deals on behalf of his country, and later on behalf of the global environment. She married an investigative reporter who lived and succeeded with the simple question: Who Benefits? She learned from both not to stop at what her ears and eyes told her. Use your brain. Ask What, Why, When, How, Where and Who? And then ask: how did it make me feel - and was that how I was meant to feel? She brings Alethos 40 years of fact-checking and experience across five continents, examining not only what is said and intended, but what actually happened as a result, and who benefited.
A message from our founder
Alethos started because when I was a child, I wanted to be an academic. Very suddenly my life took an incredible turn when I was cast as a lead on TV’s Superman and Lois. In a manner of months, I was platformed, and it was terrifying. Two of the things you learn when wanting to be an academic is that you don’t make statements you aren’t sure of, and you don’t speak outside of your field. However, when I looked around me, I saw many of the people that my generation listen to the most oftentimes didn’t have access to training or expertise on the subject. Furthermore, I saw the pressure my peers and I in the entertainment industry are under to “use our platform for good” despite not having any time to really research the topics we are being pushed to discuss. The punishment for getting something wrong could mean your entire career, and yet, many young entertainers who are platformed overnight, have no idea who to call. Both this fact about content creators and entertainers have had widespread implications to the entire global population in the form of poor quality information being widespread and dangerous.
I started Alethos to try and change that. The goal of Alethos sounds simpler than it is in execution: giving those who inform young people every opportunity at being successful and accurate. One way we are supporting influencers is by giving them the tools and expertise they need by offering training and long-term support. The other is by supporting entertainers by giving them expertise when they need it on topics they are compelled to speak on.
From the experts, many of them donating their time in-kind, to my many advisors, to the creators and entertainers who have decided to take the time to better themselves through this program, I am humbled by the support we have received. I hope to continue this advocacy and see Alethos really make an impact on people’s lives everywhere.
